Today’s business is Crane Johnson Lumber Co.
We are located in Mayville, North Dakota and the company was founded in Cooperstown, North Dakota in 1883. The company was founded by Maynard Crane, one of the original settlers of Griggs County, who moved to Cooperstown from England. He took on a partner, John E. Johnson, who was a local farmer in 1896. In the next few decades they opened stores in Hannaford, McHenry, Diasy, Glenfield, Juanita, Riviere, Karnak, Hope, Page, Mayville, Enderlin, Milnor, Hallock, Pelican Rapids, and Perham. The Mayville location was opened in 1949. The corporate headquarters moved to Fargo in 1932. We currently employ 2 full-time workers and 3 part-time workers.
At current time, we have locations in Mayville, Pelican Rapids, Perham and Fargo.
Located on 10 acres at the intersection of Main Ave and I-29, the Fargo location is home to our primary lumberyard and serves a distribution facility for our branch locations. It also houses our window sales departments where we assemble and service Andersen and Silverline windows. In 1965 Crane Johnson established its truss manufacturing subsidiary, Mid States Truss, on the site through which we produce quality roof and floor trusses using Mitek engineering.
All of these “companies within a company” – along with an in-house credit department, drafting department, and full-service delivery with boom trucks, semis, vans, truck-mounted lifts, and cranes- combine to make Crane Johnson Lumber the area’s premier supplier to contractors.

All evening activities tonight Jan. 18th are canceled.
